The Future of Pacifica’s Coastline – June 16th
For surfers whose lives are so closely tied to the shore, that is the most important question raised by continuing sea level rise.
Please join Pacifica’s Environmental Family and Pacifica Climate Committee for an evening with speakers from the USGS Pacific Coastal and Marine Science Center and UC Santa Cruz, including Research Geologist Dr. Sam Johnson, to learn about the history and current science on our coastal seafloor and beaches. The San Mateo County Office of Sustainability and City of Pacifica will also answer questions about city and county planning efforts around coastal mitigation of sea level rise.
When: Friday, June 16, 2017 at 6:45pm
Where: Pacifica Coastside Museum, 1850 Francisco Boulevard, Pacifica, CA.
Of particular interest to surfers, who certainly are better acquainted with the ocean floor than most people, will be Dr. Sam Johnson’s stunning LIDAR imaging showing the sea floor along Pacifica’s coast. The LIDAR technology helps to explain how and why waves arrive at our coast the way they do.
So what is the future of beaches in Pacifica?
