Clean Water at Linda Mar State Beach
Systemic poor water quality plagues Linda Mar State Beach in Pacifica. The Surfrider San Mateo County Blue Water Task Force (BWTF) tests the mouth of the San Pedro Creek, and found that in 2023, Linda Mar had unhealthy levels of enterococcus (fecal) bacteria 54% of the time. Armed with decades of BWTF data, Surfrider San Mateo is working with a growing coalition of organizations including Salted Roots, and San Pedro Creek Watershed Coalition, to advocate for solutions to this environmental justice and public health issue.
The coalition is eager to collaborate with the City of Pacifica and San Mateo County Public Health Department to address the following at Linda Mar State Beach:
- Better signage at the beach to alert the public when water quality is hazardous to human health.
- Further investigation of the pump house located on the beach and it's contribution to poor water quality
- Increased county testing up San Pedro Creek to identify sources of sewage pollution.
